Art Demonstration at the Oxo Tower
I was privileged to be invited by Derwent to the Oxo Tower to perform a live Art Demonstration.
I spent the morning wandering along the foreshore by the Thames, one of my favourite corners of London. There’s something about that stretch of river – the shifting light, the textures, the quiet moments of pause – that always seems to settle my mind before a day of painting.
From there, I headed to the OXO Tower Wharf for a live demonstration as part of the Derwent Art Prize programme. It’s such a bright, open space, and a real privilege to be painting there.
The session was a relaxed and interactive exploration of my floral process, using the Derwent Inktense Paint Pan Studio Set (24) alongside Inktense pencils and technique brushes. I began by using my Sketch Squares to break up the page, adding loose, spontaneous marks within each square to get things moving. From there, I allowed the florals to emerge gradually—building shape, movement and colour over time. It’s always about letting instinct lead, rather than over-planning, and trusting that something will reveal itself along the way.
It was lovely to share that process openly, with people watching, asking questions, and trying out the materials themselves. There’s something quite special about painting in that kind of environment—where curiosity and conversation become part of the work.
Thank you to everyone who came along and made it such an enjoyable session.
