NEW - Weather Painting - Limited Edition Print

£330.00

Waaay back in 2020 I painted this Weather painting or I should say the weather painted this painting; I was just the assistant! Before I had a studio, I would often paint in the garden.

I was in the bath listening to the radio and the forecast came on saying we were about to get 7 days of rain. Hmmm, slightly annoying I thought. I soon turned this round to how I could use this to my advantage. I had some beautiful thick sheets of Fabriano paper and after some experimenting, I decided that I wanted to use the rainwater. I just needed a way of holding the paper in place outside. After some playing about with different objects, I was drawn to my collection of hag stones (a stone with a natural hole through the middle). I initially put these in the corner to hold down the paper but with the wind it became apparent that it would need more. Instinctively I placed the pebbles in 3 lines. I didn’t really have a plan at this point apart from I wanted to leave it outside for 7 days and 7 nights. I added ink and over the days this was washed off by the rain and then I would add more ink. Sometimes, the Sun would dry the ink permanently forming rivers running through the lines of stones.  After the 7 days and nights, I carefully lifted the stones to reveal this glorious painting. I have always loved it but it doesn’t really sit with my other work. However, it was a pivotal moment for me to play and find the excitement in the work. Honestly I could barely sleep that week wondering what the morning would bring.

I could never part with this work but with the black and white paintings I’ve been working on the last few weeks they reminded me to search my plan chest and study this weather painting. Last week, I decided to see how it would look printed. Just maybe it was time to bring it out as a print. But I had a problem. While the painting was outside and soggy, one of the corners got torn and I wasn’t sure how would this look printed. After some thought, I wondered if my printers could tear the corner off the print. Well my goodness, when I received the proof back, it was incredible!! Everyone who’s seen it cannot believe it’s not the original and that torn corner has made it!!
